Choosing Your Memorial

Where to start

Choosing a memorial can be overwhelming with so many options.  Our best bit of advice is to know what you DON’T like; by eliminating these, you are half way there! Take a look around a local cemetery – take photos of what you headstones you like, what lettering styles and layouts that appeal.  Take into consideration the deceased wishes, what personality they had and if there is to space for more than one on the headstone.

What to say

Just as in life it’s not only what you say but how you say it.  Choosing the words to put on your memorial is made easier with the many examples of epitaphs we can show you. You might want to add a quote they were fond of or a decoration to reflect their life. The font you choose can also add personality to the message. Not all fonts are suitable for lettering granite, so if you have a favorite, let us know the name, and we can either use it or find something similar. Feel free to check out our suitable fonts.

Other questions we will ask are whether they are buried or cremated. Are they in a Private Urupa or council run public cemetery?  These details are necessary to determine the style and size of the memorial or plaque, as council run cemeteries often have bylaws that need to be adhered to. Our experienced staff will be able to guide and advise you with this.
